Various leaf forms of the varied (mutant) Japanese morning glory

In the mutant morning glory, an unusual leaf is a pleasant addition to a flower.
Let's look at some strange leaves.

(above) Whirlpool leaf or Contracted leaf ("Uzu-ba") This leaf has a small swelling on the surface, and the fine leaf veins form a whirlpool-like net at the base. The leaf color is dark green, and the basal side lobes lay on top of each other. /font>

(above) Maple leaf ("Tatsuta-ba") Like a maple leaf, this leaf is divided into 5 lobes generally by deep constrictions. The flower petals are also partially cut and separated. We call this a broad and fairly split flower.

(above) Cordate leaf ("Maru-ba") This leaf is round and heart-shaped. The leaf of the common morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea) and that of the Blue dawn flower (Ipomoea indica) have similar shapes. The flower is a round type, showing no distinct characteristics.

Polymorphic leaf ("Rangiku-ba")
The leaf shapes are not fixed, but we can understand their characteristics immediately when we look.

Delicate leaf or Bamboo leaf ("Sasa-ba")
This shape looks like 3 bamboo leaves placed side by side. There are many cases where a border of a leaf rolls.

Willow leaf ("Yanagi-ba")
This leaf is narrow and long like a willow leaf.
If the leaf is very narrow and long, like a string, we call this a filamentous willow leaf.
A flower petal is also very slender and deeply cut.

Blown leaf ("Rinpu-ba")
The basal part of the leaf is twisted, and so the leaf is warped as if you were squeezing it through your hand. The cotyledons have the same habit.

Acuminate leaf ("Nanten-ba")
This leaf has deep constrictions, making it look like compound leaves.
The leaf has a habit of twisting, and the lobes tend to turn around by themselves.

Miniature Crepe leaf ("Tsubame-Chirimen-ba")
This leaf is smaller than the ordinary leaf, and it has fine irregularities on the surface. The flower has a cup of reversed flower tube.
