Morning glory Ipomoea nil (= Pharbitis nil)

Andonzukuri,"Andon" method; "Andon" is a paper-covered lamp shade. Cultivators make bamboo supports similar to the frame of a paper-covered lamp shade.

The large-flowered morning glory is cultivated using the "Andon" method. The figure shows the exhibition held at Hibiya Park, Tokyo by the Tokyo Study Club of the Morning Glory. The exhibition is held from the end of July to the beginning of August every year. Photo taken 1983.7.29.
