We often call this plant Yuugao (Evening face) horticulturally, but in Japanese the name Yuugao botanically indicates the bottle gourd Lagenaria siceraria belonging to Cucurbitaceae. This is Yorugao (Night face) formally. This was introduced to Japan in the early years of the Meiji era. The flowers open in the evening and produce a sweet smell.
