Amerikaasagao Ipomoea hederacea (=Pharbitis hederacea)

Inheritance of leaf form

Copyright 1998-2022 Yoshiaki Yoneda

When a Hederacea leaf type and a cordate leaf type of Ipomoea hederacea were crossed, the F1 plant (center of figure) was a Hederacea leaf. Segregation at a ratio of 3 to 1 between Hederacea leaf and cordate leaf was observed in the F2 generation. Because Ipomoea hederacea is early flowering and early fruiting, if we sow in early spring and stimulate flowering by dark treatment, we can study the segregation ratio of F2 by November.
